Important do’s and don'ts when using the spreadsheet

  • Do not edit any text with "!!!" at the end. Such text (contained in various cells, and in tab names) acts as markers for the Visual Basic computer code used for the various macros. Disrupting that text will disrupt the macros, perhaps causing the macros to damage the spreadsheet.
  • Do not edit cells containing grey text, those are background calculations which form part of operation of the spreadsheet.
It is intended that a fresh and empty copy of the spreadsheet will be started at the beginning of each accounting year, and for accounts that have run on balances that carry over to the next year the end balances for the accounts from the end of the previous year will be entered into the new spreadsheet as opening account balances. End balances are typically carried over to the next year for asset, liability, and equity accounts.
